The Gokyo Ri Trek is without a doubt one of the most beautiful treks in Nepal. Definitely. The trek confirms the mythical status of Gokyo Lakes as a heaven on earth and the most pristine pastures of Khumbu. The Everest Gokyo RI Peak rises 5,483 meters above sea level, thus standing between Everest base camp and Thame valley. Located on the rim of the Everest region, the Gokyo Ri Ridge is bound by Renjo La and Cho La passes as well as the 5,553-meter Ngozumpa Tse peak. The Gokyo Ri Trek takes you to the highest point of the trek during a moderate trekking trip in the high Himalayas of the Everest region. Consequently, trekkers choose this itinerary over the more commercial Everest Trek to enjoy less crowded trails. Whether you are an experienced traveler or a novice, this can often be an excellent choice.

The Everest Gokyo Ri Trek is an 11-day moderate trek that has also been referred to as the Hidden Treasure alternative trek to the Everest base camp trek. Although Gokyo Ri is located at a height of 5,483 meters, climbing permits are not required to climb the peak. In total, two types of permits are required: the permit for Sagarmatha National Park and the permit for Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipalities. DAY 1 – Start Kathmandu.

DAY 2 – Fly to Lukla (2800m); trek to Phakding

DAY 3 – Follow the Dudh Kosi and ascend to Namche Bazaar.

Day 4 – Explore in and around Namche Bazaar; Acclimatization walk to Kunde and Khumjung; descend to Kyanjuma.

DAY 5 – Cross the Mong La into the Gokyo Valley and trek to Dole.

DAY 6 – Continue to Machhermo.

DAY 7 – Trek to Gokyo Lake, a small settlement of lodges on the shores of a blue lake.

DAY 8 – Climb Gokyo Ri (5360m); back to the same lodge at Gokyo.

DAY 9 – Cross the Gokyo Glacier and overnight at Thagha.

DAY 10 – Cross the Cho La (5420m) and enter the main Khumbu Valley; trek to Dzongla.

DAY 11 – Continue the ascent to Lobuje.

DAY 12 – A long day to visit Everest Base Camp. Overnight at Gorak Shep.

DAY 13 – Climb Kala Pattar (5545m) for classic views of Everest; descend to Dingboche.

DAY 14 – Trek to Chhukung.

DAY 15 – Rest day at Chhukung.

DAY 16 – Trek to Iceland Basecamp (tent service)

DAY 17 – Summit Iceland Peak and back to Chhukung (Long day).

DAY 18 – Trek to Thyangboche and visit the famous monastery.

DAY 19 – Trek to Namche Bazaar and explore overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 20 – Trek to Lukla.

Day 21 – Fly back to Kathmandu.
